Million-billion or lakh-crore?

The international system groups digits in threes, thousand, million, billion, trillion, so 1,000,000 is “one million”. The Indian system groups the first three digits, then pairs, thousand, lakh (1,00,000) and crore (1,00,00,000), so the same number is “ten lakh”. For cheques, write the amount in words with the currency name and add “only” at the end so nothing can be appended, for example “One thousand two hundred thirty-four rupees and fifty-six paise only”. This converter handles both systems, four currencies, ordinals and decimals, entirely in your browser.

What is the difference between international and Indian numbering?

The international system groups digits in threes: thousand, million, billion, trillion. The Indian system uses lakh (1,00,000) and crore (1,00,00,000), grouping the first three digits and then pairs. For example, 10,000,000 is "ten million" internationally and "one crore" in the Indian system.
