What does Percentage Calculator do?

It solves five common percentage problems: percent of a number, what percent X is of Y, percentage change (increase or decrease), discount price and savings, and tax/VAT (add to a price or remove from an inclusive total).

Why is "remove 20% tax" different from "subtract 20%"?

If a price already includes 20% VAT, the tax is 20% of the original price, not 20% of the gross total. The correct formula divides by 1.2, not multiplies by 0.8. This tool uses the right formula for each case automatically.
