About Typing Speed Test
Typing Speed Test is a free, private productivity tool that runs entirely in your web browser. It measures your WPM (words per minute) and accuracy across timed tests of 15, 30, 60, or 120 seconds, or a full passage. Everything happens locally on your device. Nothing is uploaded to a server. There is no sign-up or installation required. Your best score is saved on your device so you can track improvement over sessions. It is ideal for practising touch typing, benchmarking your speed, and reducing errors. Like every free tool by Digital Heroes, it is 100% free with no limits.
Frequently asked questions
Is Typing Speed Test free?
Yes. Typing Speed Test is completely free for everyone. No sign-up, no account, and no usage limits.
How is WPM calculated?
Words per minute uses the standard formula: total correct characters typed divided by 5 (the average word length), divided by the elapsed minutes. The live stat updates every 200ms while the test is running. The final result shows both net WPM (correct keystrokes only) and raw WPM (all keystrokes including errors).
Is my typing data uploaded anywhere?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser. Your best score is stored in your browser's local storage on your own device. Nothing is sent to any server.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded it keeps working offline. You can also install it as a web app from your browser's address bar.
What is the consistency score?
Consistency measures how steady your WPM stayed throughout the test. The tool samples your speed roughly every second and calculates the coefficient of variation. A score of 100% means perfectly even speed. Higher is better.
What is the difference between net WPM and raw WPM?
Net WPM counts only correct characters and is the standard measure of useful typing speed. Raw WPM counts every keystroke including errors, so it is always equal to or higher than net WPM. A large gap between them means many mistakes were made.
